Congratulations to the 2025 UM History Graduates!

The History Department congratulates the 43 students who completed their degree requirements in 2024-2025, including one PhD candidate (Michael Larmann), 6 MA candidates (Mitch Morris, Kellen Neighbors, Lauryn Tecca, Cassidy Vander Voort, Hazel Videon, and Dylan Yonce), and 36 BA candidates.
At the departmental graduation ceremonies, Claire Brolin, winner of the President’s Outstanding Senior Award for History, shared her thoughts about how the problem-solving skills she gained from the study of history will enrich her future as a medical professional.
We also presented book awards to several students who made strong positive impressions on members of our faculty:
Professor John Eglin presented Riley Carney with a copy of Henry Kamen’s book, The Spanish Inquisition. Riley, who has distinguished himself by research in Spanish-language primary sources, presented papers at Phi Alpha Theta and at UMCUR and graduated as a Presidential Scholar summa cum laude.
Professor Leif Fredrickson presented Paige Moriarty with a copy of Chad Montrie’s The Myth of Silent Spring: Rethinking the Origins of American Environmentalism. During her time at UM, Paige worked on numerous public history projects, including a digital exhibit examining the complex interplay of labor, economic growth, and environmental issues related to an aluminum smelter in her hometown of Columbia Falls.
Professor Anya Jabour presented Parker Mickel with a copy of Wendy L. Rouse’s Public Faces, Secret Lives: A Queer History of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Parker, who presented on the a Progressive-era lesbian journalist, Djuna Barnes, at Phi Alpha Theta, begins work for Teach For America in California this summer.
Professor Lily Scott presented Kadin Hawley with a copy of Andrew Demshuk’s The Lost German East: Forced Migration and the Politics of Memory, 1945-1970. Kadin, who stood out as “a remarkably energetic and intellectually curious student,” presented at UMCUR and plans to apply for graduate school in European history in the fall.
We also extend special congratulations to Keely McFarren, winner of the President’s Outstanding Senior Award in History Education; and Zachery Craig, recipient of the President’s Outstanding Senior Award in History-Political Science.
