Box will go into read-only mode after Friday, May 30, 2025, and will no longer be 91ÊÓƵ after August 2025.

Box users are encouraged to move any files and data they would like to save to OneDrive (for individual data storage) or SharePoint (for data shared with other individuals and teams).

Steps to take:

1. Inventory the contents of your Box folders. Decide what you don’t need, what you want to keep in OneDrive (personal; not to share with others) and what you want to keep in SharePoint (work documents that others should be able to access.)
2. For the work documents to be kept in SharePoint, develop a file hierarchy/structure that everyone on your team/in your unit understands and agrees to use.
3. Document this in a records management document (templates 91ÊÓƵ.)
4. Set aside time to download the file transfer software and do the file transfer.
5. Be sure to check that the transfer was successful and that all transferred files are 91ÊÓƵ in OneDrive/SharePoint.

UM IT is preparing to perform a “domain claim” on Monday, May 19, 2025 that will make it easier to manage accounts in Atlassian tools including Bitbucket, Confluence, Jira, and Trello. After this change, users of these products will no longer be routed to a stand-alone account, and will instead login using UM Single Sign-On (SSO). Many UM employees recently received the following notification from Apple concerning their Apple Accounts: “University Of Montana-missoula now requires that all Apple Accounts using mso.umt.edu be managed by them. You need to either transfer your account to University Of Montana-missoula or change the email address by June 06, 2025.”

This notification is legitimate, and is related to the conversion of all Apple Accounts using UM email addresses to Managed Apple Accounts. Some UM employees who do not have their UM email listed as the primary email address for their Apple Account may have received this notification because their UM email is listed as a backup or emergency recovery address.

A strong password is your first line of defense. To ensure your passwords are resilient against attacks,

• Make them long: Aim for at least 12 to 16 characters. Longer passwords are more difficult for attackers to crack.
• Make them random: Avoid using easily guessable information, such as common words or phrases. Use a mix of letters (both upper and lower case), numbers, and special characters in random combinations.   Alternatively, use a memorable phrase of unrelated words.
• Make them unique: Do not reuse passwords across different sites or systems. Each account should have a unique password to minimize the risk of a breach spreading to other accounts.

Consider using a password manager to generate and store your complex passwords securely. .

Phishing attacks are one of the most common ways cybercriminals gain access to personal information. Always be cautious with unsolicited messages and verify the source before clicking on links or opening attachments. If you receive a suspicious email, report it using the Report Message tool in Outlook.

MFA adds a critical layer of protection by requiring a second form of identification, such as a code sent to your phone or an app, in addition to your password. Whenever 91ÊÓƵ, enable MFA on your accounts to help protect against unauthorized access.

Keeping your software up-to-date is crucial in protecting against the latest vulnerabilities. Set your devices to automatically install updates or routinely check for updates to ensure you have the latest security patches.
